I love Saturdays and not just because you can catch up on things, relax and hang out with friends and family! I love Saturdays because of our Journey Fitness Saturday Morning Boot Camps. On Saturdays I get to train with people that I might not get to train with the rest of the week and we all have a bit more energy knowing that we don’t have the grind of working. I love Saturdays so much that you could say that the word Saturday is an emotional trigger for me.
This Saturday at the end of our session I read to our group from a book called “The Power of Attitude”. The section I was reading from spoke of emotional triggers. The book said people’s emotions are like dynamite keeping everything on the inside until the fuse is lit.
I would say that people actually have two fuses to lite. Sometimes certain situations or people lite our negative fuse and we become miserable. We snap at our loved ones, we feel like giving up on our dreams, we think depressing thoughts and the world seems like a dark place.
Then there are other times when our positive fuse gets lit. When this happens we are our best. You go through your day and your are firing on all cylinders. Nothing can stop you. Everyone wants to be around you and you enjoy being around everyone because everywhere you go and everyone you see gets a deposit of goodness from you.
Therefore the key is to know how to lite the right fuse. In the book the “Power of Attitude” the author records himself a playlist of music that he can listen to when he needs inspiration. He chose three songs. The first was “What a Wonderful World” to help him to have gratitude. The second was “Wind Beneath My Wings” which honors the memory of his father and makes the author feel good. Finally the third was “I Hope You Dance”. The author said that song helps him to make tough decisions.
You have to lite a fire to achieve your goals! You have to keep the fire lit so you don’t give up on your dreams. So the question I have for you is what songs or other things will lite your fuse? Once you know the things that lite the wrong fuse then make a list and find a way to avoid them or reduce the frequency of contact with them. Then make your list of things that lite the right fuse and use those as needed like a dose of inspiration.
